Founded in 2010, the Northwest Tattoo Museum (NTM) resides in Coeur d’Alene and is the only tattoo museum in the northwest recognized by the Tattoo Archive and the National Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The museum provides a displayed collection of late 1800’s-1980s tattoo subculture (i.e., historical photographs, documents, flash, machines, tattoo implements, tattoo related artifacts, etc.) from all over the world. The focus is primarily electromagnetic tattooing. The NTMs entire 1,500 ft2 building showcases the collection and also provides space for a growing library, archive of historic documents, and live tattooing.
All displays have narratives to facilitate a self-guided tour. Or if you prefer, you can call the museum to set up an appointment with tattoo historian and curator, Jay Brown. Jay loves to provide a personalized viewing and education experience. The museum is free but accepts donations. We also provide tattooing by expert tattooists that are members of the Alliance of Professional Tattooists. The NTM staff and displays are an educational resource so drop by and learn some tattoo history or get a tattoo!
